This enigmatic "Post Note" issue, with the notes made payable to "James Monroe or bearer," is from an unknown Cincinnati issuer from the 1830s. While the origin of these notes is shrouded in mystery, they are popular with collectors--especially since a small hoard of approximately 100 sheets, handled by this cataloger, turned up a decade ago to supply the market with nice examples. A corner fold in the selvage is the only grade-limiting factor on this sheet.
