Australia. Melbourne Token Copper Penny, ND. KM-TN67Fenwick Brothers, importers and clothiers, produced by an unknown British mint circa 1862. 34 mm diameter. Obverse: Young portrait of Queen Victoria left, 225 KING ST MELBOURNE above, VICTORIA below. Reverse: A view of Observatory House beside a large flagstaff with cross stays, ropes, etc. A single flag flies from the left side of the flagstaff. The Fenwick token is usually encountered in VF-XF condition, but this is an exceptional example. Possibly a specimen or presentation striking. NGC graded AU-58 Brown.

*In November 1853 Orlando Fenwick came from England to found a drapery business in Melbourne. In 1857 he established a store in King Street and was joined by his brother Pascoe. In 1862 they opened a wholesale warehouse in Collins Place (Equitable Place) and issued 2 tokens from the King St premises.
