Lot 2316

L. Farsuleius Mensor, moneyer. AR Denarius minted at Rome, c. 75 BC. Diademed and draped bust right of Libertas; behind, liberty cap and "S.C". Reverse: Roma in biga right. Farsuleia 2; Cr. 392/1b; Syd. 789. Extremely Fine.

The letters "SC" on Republican coinage refer to a special Senate sanction which was given for particular issues to be minted. "SC" on Imperial AE coinage differs in that it signifies that the Senate had complete control over all AE coins. The emperor himself had right of minting on all the precious metal (gold and silver) emissions.
Estimated Value $275 - 325.

Realized $863
