Lot 2047

Sicily, Leontinoi, c. 455-430 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.23 g). Laureate head left of Apollo. Reverse: Lion's head right with open mouth, enclosed by close-fitting, raised circle; around, four barley corns. SNG Lloyd 1060; Dewing 630v. Very Fine, and attractive.

Just as the leaf replacing one of the reverse barley corns hints, the circle around the lion's head most likely indicates a particular artist of high merit.
Estimated Value $600 - 800.

Realized $1,840
