Wood, Grant. Family Doctor. Lithograph signed in pencil at lower right. Edition of 300, 1941, 9½ x 11 in. Matted and in the original 14¼ x 15½ in. frame. Lightly toned. This is Wood's last composition, commissioned by Abbott Laboratories of Chicago as gifts for physicians. It shows the hands and medical instruments of Wood's personal physician and friend, Dr. A. W. Bennett, about whom Wood said, "Let this be a tribute to the skill and artistry of the Family Doctor from one who for many years has known him well, sometimes in his professional role, occasionally as a critic, always as a friend." Wood signed the lithographs for this work in his hospital room, where he would die of pancreatic cancer on February 12, 1942. The consignor's father was a family physician and the original recipient of this lithograph from Abbott Laboratories.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
