Lot 666

1850 N-11 R3. AU-50. Slightly sharper with a shallow planchet flake out of the rim at the bottom of the reverse. This defect is mint-made, but it does catch your eye. Otherwise this cent is very attractive. Glossy olive and steel with traces of faded mint color remaining in protected areas and underlying frosty mint luster covering the fields. MDS, die state a late. The tiny spike from the dentils under star 4 is dull but visible and the tiny points down from the left base of the N in ONE are present. A variety that's difficult to find nice. Tied for CC#4.
Estimated Value $400-UP.
Ex Harry W. Colborn, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 5/05:1884-Evan Kopald (via Chris McCawley) 6/06-Phyllis Thompson.
