Lot 651

1849 N-17 R3+. MS-60 Plus. Lustrous light to medium chocolate and steel brown with overtones of bluish steel covering both sides. Traces of slightly faded mint red can be found on both sides. Outstanding eye appeal for the grade as satiny mint frost covers the planchet. It takes some searching to locate any identifying marks. A speck of darker reddish chocolate toning on the bottom of the front edge of the neck and a speck of verdigris resting on the right top of the D in UNITED are the best ones I can find. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state b early, with a fine die crack through the top of ME and shallow crumbling that connects the tops of CE in CENT. CC#6 for this scarce die variety.
Estimated Value $800-UP.
