Rudolf II (1552-1612) Holy Roman Emperor, King of Hungary, King of Bohemia, and Archduke of Austria. devotee of art, astrology, and alchemy. Printed Document Signed as Holy Roman Emperor, 1 page, in Hungarian, 13½ x 16¾ in., n.p., 1583. Untranslated. Printed on laid, watermarked paper. Attractive paper seal is intact and signature is bold. Rudolf became mentally unstable and in 1608 the Habsburg archdukes forced Rudolf to cede Hungary, Austria, and Moravia to his brother Matthias and to promise him the succession in Bohemia, which Rudolf was forced to yield in 1611. He did maintain his Holy Roman Emperor status until his death.
