Warren, Earl (1891-1974) 14th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (1953-69); three times Governor of California. Two Typed Letters Signed, 1 page each, on Supreme Court letterhead, Washington, Sept. 24, 1969 and Feb. 24, 1970. Both written to California State Assemblyman Walter Karabian, regarding passage of Resolution No. 277 concerning Warren's retirement (June 23, 1969). Warren reflects on his public service which began in 1919 after he left the Army. "…I have been in the public service since that time without a break….I want you to know that I shall always remember with appreciation the sentiments expressed in the Resolution and the generosity of the Assembly in adopting it." The second letter expresses gratitude for the framed copy of the Resolution and says that he will hang it in his study. Both very fine. Transmittal envelopes present.
Estimated Value $250 - 300.
