Sicily, Naxos, c. 420 BC. AR Tetradrachm (15.8 g). Classical head right of Dionysos, wearing stephane decorated with ivy wreath. Very rare. Well detailed; porosity mainly confined to the reverse. About Extremely Fine/Very Fine.
One of the classic types of ancient Greek coins. In 1944, Herbert Cahn enumerated only 51 tetradrachms of this type, all from the same obverse die, and utilizing five different reverse dies.
