Byzantine Empire. John V and John VI, 1347-1353. Silver Basilikon (0.63g), Constantinople. John the Baptist, nimbate, stg. facing, r. hand on chest, holding cross and scroll inscribed I / D in l., uncertain sigla in field. Rev. John V, on l., and John VI, on r., stg. facing, each crowned and wearing loros, holding long cross between them. DOC V, p. 184, type 5; PCPC 291; LPC p. 142, 6; Sear-Bendall 2531. Very Fine and extremely rare, large areas of flatness in the striking.
