Byzantine Empire. Andronicus III, 1328-1341. Silver Half Basilikon (heavy series, 0.99g), Constantinople. Nimbate figure of St. Demetrius stg. facing in military attire, holding spear and resting on shield. Rev. Andronicus, on l., and the Virgin, on r., both stg. facing, the emperor crowned and wearing loros, his hands extended, the Virgin nimbate. DOC 867; PCPC 196; LPC p. 120, 6; Sear-Bendall 2476. Very Fine and very rare.
