Byzantine Empire. Andronicus III, 1328-1341. Silver Basilikon (light series 1g), Constantinople. Christ seated facing on high-backed throne, wearing nimbus cr. and holding book of Gospels, sigla lis and B in field to l. and to r. Rev. St. Demetrius, nimbate, on l., and Andronicus, crowned and wearing loros, on r., both stg. facing, the saint holding cross on breast. DOC 875-6; PCPC 197 (sigla A); LPC p. 118, 4; Sear-Bendall 2472. Nearly Very Fine and rare, some flatness on the faces and slight irregularity at edge with evidence of crystallization.
