Thanking Mrs. Edward Brown for her "congratulations and best wishes on my confirmation as the Vice President of the United States….I will do my utmost to merit the confidence that has been expressed in me…." President Nixon appointed Ford Vice President on December 6, 1973 after Spiro Agnew was forced to resign.
