1879, $10 Refunding Certificate. PCGS Currency Apparent Choice New 63. . Fr-214. . KL-395. There was a time when this note was extremely rare in high grades, but a small hoard became available to collectors a couple of decades ago and supplied a group of high end circulated examples. Fully New Refunding Certificates remain, however, extremely rare. PCGS Currency has graded only two examples 60 or better, this piece and a sole legendary 65PPQ. There is a small edge tear at the left end that extends slightly into the design on this example, but otherwise the note retains full originality and terrific eye appeal.
