California Gold Fields Letter. 1866 Autograph Letter Signed ("J.L. Simpson") on plain ruled paper, July 6, 1866, "Cisco Placer County," 10 x 8 in. A very interesting letter concerning the California Gold Rush. In part (with misspellings left in): "I am prospecting hear for gold quarts thir is sevril ledges hear that will pay from $200 to $400 to the tun… The railroad co. is driven ahead worken 900 chinamen and 1200 white men the cars will come to Cisco by Oct. I have located a quarts ledge 2 miles South west of this, I can git gold in the quarts at the surface." Fine.
