Byrd, Richard E. Typed Letter Signed ("R E Byrd") on paper with typed heading: "Byrd Arctic Expedition," Washington, D.C., April 4, 1926. To G.F. Jowett, the "Arnold" of his day, thanking him for the 200 pound set of barbells. "We… know it will be useful in keeping the members of the expedition fit… ." A month later Byrd flew over the North Pole; in 1928-1930, he would lead the first expedition to Antarctica. Toned, with a few edge chips. Attached is a vintage newspaper clipping of one of the members of the expedition lifting the barbell.
