George IV (1762-1830) British monarch (1820-30); he served as Prince Regent when his father, George III, was mentally incapacitated. Document signed ("George PR") as Prince Regent, 7¼pp, Carlton House, 29 June 1815. Countersigned by Castlereagh, who was Foreign Secretary. The first 1¼ pages are a "warrant for affixing the Great Seal to the Ratification of a Treaty of Subsidy between His Majesty and the King of Wartenberg." The paper and wax Royal Seal is affixed to the left margin and all of the pages are attached by a dark ribbon leading from the Seal. Fine.

A true copy of the treaty, which was negotiated at Brussels, 6 June 1815 by the Duke of Wellingtion for the British and Baron Hügel for Wartenberg, is transcribed on five pages, with English in the left column and French in the right column. Reference is made to the Treaty of General Alliance signed between Great Britain, Austria, Russia, and Prussia on 25 March 1815, by which the King of Wartenberg agreed to employ a contingent of 20,000 men for the British. By the treaty of 6 June, the Prince Regent, in the name of George III, agrees to pay the King of Wartenberg a subsidy of eleven pounds two shillings sterling per man for 20,000 men, to be paid at the end of each month in London. In case of peace between the Allied Powers and France before the expiration of 1815, the subsidy would be paid to the end of the month in which the treaty was signed.

Napoleon abdicated for the second time on 22 June 1815, 16 days after this treaty was negotiated and one week before it was ratified. Louis XVIII signed the second Treaty of Paris on 8 July 1815.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.
