Lot 1233

de Lempicka, Tamara. Autoportrait. 31¾ x 25 inch limited edition estate serigraph, 208/400, matted to an overall size of 38½ x 31¼ inches. Considered de Lempicka's most famous image, this c. 1932 masterwork portrays the artist herself, captured with steely allure behind the wheel of a green Bugatti. As the "New York Times" described it in 1974: "…a true image of the self-asserting, independent woman. The hands are gloved, she has a helmet on her head, and she is inaccessible; her cool, disturbing beauty reveals a formidable being - this woman is free." Known as much for her artistic ability as her scandalous bohemian lifestyle, both Tamara de Lempicka's work and reputation have become synonymous with the Art Deco movement and the Roaring Twenties lifestyle. A Certificate of Authenticity signed by de Lempicka's daughter, Baroness Kizette de Lempicka, is included.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,500.
