Bell, Bert & Jim Ray Smith - NFL Football Contract. National Football League Standard Players Contract between the Cleveland Browns and James Ray Smith, for the 1957 football season, 19¾ x 8 in. Signed in 1955 by Bert Bell as Commissioner of the NFL and twice by Smith, once on the front and once on the back, acknowledging receipt of $500 for signing the contract. Smith played nine seasons in the NFL, most of with the Cleveland Browns. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1987 (he was an All American at Baylor). Bell was co-founder of the Philadelphia Eagles, co-owner and coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers and commissioner of the National Football League from 1946 until his death in 1959. A few small edge splits, else fine.
