Late Civil War-Plains Indian Wars Canteen. A Good late Civil War-Plains Indian Wars Canteen circa, late 1860's-1870's. Canvas cover marked: "10", "crossed rifles","2 LA" (2nd Louisiana Infantry), other side stamped "U.S." Has original arsenal leather strap and original stopper. A few scattered stains as to be expected from usage and wear but overall condition very good. No tears or rips.
Note: Many Civil War canteens deemed "serviceable" were modified/altered canvas covered/re-covered to New Arsenal regulation specifications and were even known to be used up through the Spanish American War and WW I.
