Elaborately Detailed "1863" Dated Coffee Pot. Civil War era, coffee pot, 12 in. tall, silver-plated, with a figural American eagle head as its spout. Extensive pattern work along the lip as well as a walrus on top of the hinged lid finial. A lion head sits atop an elaborately decorated handle. The body of the pot has been engraved with various geometric bands. The maker's mark on the bottom of the pot reads. "E. CAUFMANN, Patd April 28, 1863, PHILAD." The excellent silver patina of the pot is slightly marred in areas where the brass has worn through.
