Lot 720

1922 Lincoln Cent. No D. Strong reverse. PCGS graded AU-55 PQ. A delightful light reddish brown example with luster aplenty on both sides, clean, problem-free surfaces, and good detail. Part of an unusual grading set of these important Lincoln Cent oddities. The 1922 "Plain" cents while, at first blush, a novice might think were struck at the mint at Philadelphia, since they carry no mintmark, have long been known to be made at the Denver Mint. The "D" mintmark on the obverse die got filled with a foreign substance, perhaps grease from the equipment, and so faded away until the D disappeared completely. Coins in this high grade command strong prices. We expect active bidding action! Pop 53; 76 finer, 39 in 58, 1in 60, 22 in 62, 9 in 63, 5 in 64 (PCGS # 3287) .
Estimated Value $6,500 - 7,000.
