1847 Hawaiian Cent. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. Crosslet 4 in date; berries 7 + 8. Smooth brown luster with steel blue accents. HAPA HANERI (literally "half of one hundred") should have been spelled HAPA HANELI, there being no letter R in the Hawaiian alphabet. Of the 100,000 cents that were coined, only 11,000 or so remained in circulation when a census was taken in 1862 in the reign of Kamehameha IV (PCGS # 10965) .
