Lot 3861

1918-S Buffalo Nickel. PCGS graded MS-64. CAC Approved. Attractive golden toning. This very scarce S-mint issue displays a velvety smooth and lustrous near-gem appearance with a gradation of toning shades on both sides. The contact from the dies is complete (and unbeatable for 1918-S); no hint of weakness on either the head or the pelt where it covers the bison's shoulder. Regarding this date, it seems that most of the mintage of 4.8 million coins entered circulation and remained there for many years. Choice Mint quality examples are rarely offered for sale. Pop 221; 31 finer, 30 in 65, 1 in 66 (PCGS # 3940) .
Estimated Value $5,500 - 6,000.
The Harpeth Valley Collection.

Realized $5,290
