1787 EXCELSIOR Copper with Eagle on Globe Facing Right Breen-979 Rarity-7. Rather glossy chocolate and dark steel brown. No verdigris, but shallow corrosion covers much of the planchet causing portions of the legend to be weak or unreadable. The date is complete and easily readable but not strong. The first 3 letters of EXCELSIOR are faint at best but the rest are readable and most of E. PLURIBUS UNUM can be made out. The arms of New York and right facing eagle atop the globe are all visible. An acceptable if imperfect example of this extremely rare early colonial copper.
Estimated Value $4,000 - 6,000.

Realized $6,900
