Mexico. Rare Maximilian Peso Box Medal. An intricately constructed box medal made from one or more Maximilian pesos, the reverse of this one dated 1866 Mo. Opening from the back, the reverse is hinged, moving upward and forward to reveal a circular area for a photo, lock of hair, etc. Marvelous 19th century workmanship, difficult to reproduce today. Very rare. Ex-Lois Bailey Collection. Very Fine to Extremely Fine.
