Lot 2131

German States - Hesse-Cassel. Taler, 1630-TS. Dav-6741; Schütz-777; KM-115.2; Hoffm.6092. Mintmaster TS (Terenz Schmidt, 1621-1634). Wilhelm V, 1627-1637. Date dividing crowned arms. Reverse Tree in storm, sun above with Hebrew "JEHOVAH". Toned. Scarce date. NGC graded EF-40.

Translations are most interesting. The German name for these Talers is "Wiedenbaum", meaning "Willow Tree". The English name is "Storm Taler". Thus, the German concentrates on the tree below, while the English chooses the storm raging above.
Estimated Value $900 - 1,000.
David Cassel Collection.
