Lot 424

Great Britain. Crown, 1822. S-3805; KM-680.2. George IV, 1760-1820. Laureate Head left. Reverse: St George and the Dragon. TERTIO edge. Extraordinarily sharp strike, almost medallic in quality, with exceptionally clean fields shimmering with cartwheel luster under superb old toning -- deeply iridescent, ranging from russet gray to steel blue and rose, with hints of green. The finest example seen of this date (far, far rarer than the 1821 Secundo issue) in many, many years. Nonpareil in this cataloguer's experience, and underestimated in numerical terms. NGC graded MS-66.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.
Ex Dr Jacob Y. Terner Collection.

Realized $9,085
