Great Britain. Kings of All England. AR Penny, ND (Wilton mint, struck 1050-1053). North-823; S-1177. 1.71 grams. Edward the Confessor, 1042-1066 AD. Expanding Cross type; heavy coinage. Moneyer, Aelfwold. Diademed and draped bust left, scepter before; +EDPER ·D REEX: around. Reverse: Central circle, short voided cross with expanding arms within, joined at center by quadrilateral within circle, pellet within; +ELFPOL·D ON PILTVNE around. Sharp strike with full legends, on an excellent, broad flan of good metal. Pleasing medium lilac-gray to silvery brown tone. NGC graded AU-58.
