Great Britain. Kings of All England. AR Penny, ND (Canterbury, struck 1038-1040). North-803; S-1165. 0.87 grams. Harold I, 1035-1040 AD. Fleur-de-Lis Cross type. Moneyer, Wulfwine or Wulfwig. Diademed, draped or cuirassed bust left; in front, a shield and sceptre: +HAR OLD REC around. Reverse: Long voided cross, joined at center by two circles, with pellet within, in each angle a fleur-de-lis flanked by two pellets; +PV LPNE ONC CNT spaced around arms. Finely struck, on a full flan of choice metal, with detailed rim beading. Artistic, medium to dark gray toning. A remarkable example -- said to be one of only two known at this grade level. Among the finest extant. NGC graded AU-58.

Harold I was joint king of Mercia with his half-brother Harthacnut 1035-1037; sole king of all England 1037-1040.
