Great Britain. Kings of All England. AR Penny, ND (Winchester, struck c. 1024-1030). North-787; S-1158. 1.03 grams. Cnut (the Great), 1016-1035 AD. Pointed Helmet type. Moneyer, Alfwold. Central circle, helmeted and draped bust left within, holding scepter, the bust extending to flan edge; + CNVT REC ?? around. Reverse: Central circle, short voided cross joined at center by two circles, inner pellet, and in each angle a broken annulet around inner pellet; + ÆLFPTL·D ON PINIC around. Crisp strike, but with some weakness at center. Lustrous on a choice flan of good metal. Fine, dark blue-gray toning, with dark pinks in the recesses. Unlisted moneyer for this mint by North, but listed in Gruebber, p. 297, no. 563. Rare. NGC graded AU-58. Estimated Value $600 - 800. Ex Dr Jacob Y.
