Great Britain. Kings of Mercia. AR Penny, ND (East Anglian mint, struck c. 810-820). North-363; S-919. 1.43 grams. Coenwulf, 796-821 AD. Portrait type of crude style; Early Group. Diademed and draped bust right; + CONVVLC VEX M around. Reverse: Quatrefoil with beaded dividers; +LVL around the leaves, with single pellet also. Especialy bold strike for this issue, with just a touch of weakness on one edge. The metal very good, with only faint granularity. Unusually full flan. Attractive tan to gray toning. Extremely Rare. NGC graded EF-45.

Remarkable for an East Anglian mint issue. Among the finest known.
