Lot 988

Ben-Gurion, David (1886-1973) Letter to an Arab discussing the impending war with Egypt. Typed letter in Hebrew signed "D. Ben-Gurion," as Minister of Defense, one page, 7 7/8" x 6", May 14, 1955, on State of Israel letterhead, addressed "Dear Friend." He writes: "I have received your letter, and your loyalty is very precious to me. Following the coup d'état which was carried out by the present heads of Egypt, the Government which I headed welcomed the rebels against King Farouq, and I expressed my hope that the revolution would bring blessings to the Egyptian people, the Egyptian peasants, the Egyptian laborers, and would pave a new road of peace for itself. It is regrettable that the heads of Egypt have disappointed our hope, and the hope of the Egyptian people, as the heads of Egypt have repudiated their people and cast it down, and they are now seeking to embroil it in a war with Israel. I am certain and convinced that the Egyptian tyrant will pay a heavy price for his aggression." Fine.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.
