Wright, Orville (1871-1948) Aviation pioneer. With his brother Wilbur, he invented and built the first successful powered, piloted and controlled airplane which they flew on December 17, 1903 near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Postcard PS in black ink, n.p., n.d. A small oval portrait of Orville Wright is to the left of a photo of The Wright Flyer, with imprint of E.J. Gadshall, 1910. Printed at lower left is "The Machine Descending." One light crease touching "O" and "r" in the signature and minor corner wear.
