Lot 1637

Walliserops Trident Trilobite. Walliserops is one of the most bizarre of the spiny trilobites found in Morocco. What makes it so strange is the trident-shaped appendage on the front of its head. What this was used for exactly is pure conjecture, but digging in the soft ocean sand is a likely option. The preparation on this complete 2.25 x 1 inch, 380 million year old trilobite from Ikelel Gara in southern Morocco is as good as it gets with a clear trident, rows of tiny spines including long curved spines on the backs of its compound eyes and excellent outstretched positioning on the 3.5 x 3 inch light gray matrix. The only minor imperfection is a slight separation of the pygidium (tail) from the rest of the body which occurred at the time of the trilobite's death.

Add $15.00 for domestic shipping.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.
