Philonix Spiny Trilobite. Many different varieties of spiny trilobites dated over 375 million year old have been recovered in Morocco. They would develop sharp spines to protect themselves from being swallowed whole by carnivorous worms and other jawless sea predators. These specimens usually require many hours of tedious work to reveal their delicate spines, but the labor proves well worth the effort in the amazingly life-like appearances that result. This 3.25 inch long Philonix is certainly one of the most bizarre of the spiny trilobites with outstanding detail including the compound eye, large 1 inch spines over each eye, rows of spines down the center and both sides of the body and tail. Dramatically positioned on a 4.75 x 3.5 inch gray matrix, Philonix of this museum quality have brought over $4,000 at auction.

Add $20.00 for domestic shipping.
Estimated Value $1,300 - 1,800.
