Elaborately Sculpted Lady's Compact, in Silver. United States, Italy, c. 1900-1930. The box square and shallow, with mirror on interior lid; the frame holding the mirror stamped, "Made in Italy, " and "800" in oval border, along with small export stamp. The outer lid with handsome open-work tracery, sculpted and incised, framing an attractive 18th century-style portrait of a pretty lady holding a circlet of flowers, painted on parchment or celluloid, the artist's signature partially hidden. Rest of box's exterior engraved with floral ornament. An eye-catching accessory, finely preserved. Size: 3" x 3".
