Lot 1419

A Charming Box in Sterling and Mother-of-Pearl. Birmingham, England, c. 1849/50. The object is shaped as a bombé desk or chest, and comprised of an exotic sea shell in a sterling frame, which forms the legs and support for the shell. Frame with typical furniture ornament, plus an integral medallion, inscribed: "To Irene, 9/8/26." Silver with Birmingham marks, dating it to mid-19th century. Triangular maker's stamp indistinct. Intact, and finely preserved. Width: 3"; Height: 2-1/4".
