Alonzo, Dominique. Carrying Water. A young women in "Near Eastern" garb, sculpted in bronze, her bust, feet, and hands carved in ivory, descends a pair of steps, carrying two water vessels. Her lovely features framed by a pendant bead necklace, a similar elaborate girdle enclosing her bodice. Right side of base signed in casting: "D. Alonzo," Old inked number underneath base: "5001." Piece well-preserved, with faint age cracks to some of the ivory. One hand and vessel a little loose, and in need of tightening. Height: 12-3/4".

Alonzo was born in Paris in the late 19th century, and was a pupil of Falguiere. He exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1912 till 1926. In his later works he often explored the seedy side of Berlin Night life.
