New York: Johnson, Fry and Co., 1861. 2 volume set, each 11¼" x 9", 616pp and 598pp. Extra illustrated title page, frontispieces, and hundreds of fine full-page engraved portraits from original paintings by Alonzo Chappel, with biographical and historical narratives by Duyckinck. Thick 4to, ¾ brown Morocco, gilt-lettered spine with raised bands, all page edges gilt, with marbled end papers. Front and back leather covers rubbed, with occasional very light foxing of text. Binding tight.
