Large oversize edition of the famous Quaker apologia, 12¾" x 8", 856pp, plus an additional discourse entitled Bishop of Exeter (98pp) and an extensive table of contents. Printed in 1679. Signed on second page, William Carpenter's Book; Carpenter and his family were early Pennsylvania residents involved in William Penn's great experiment and the founding of Philadelphia. Newly rebound in full-calf leather with gold stamping on both spine and red title label. Title page and second page have expert corner edge repairs. Occasional very light tone spotting internally and some old damp staining in bottom and middle section margins.
