DS by William Brown as Collector of the District of Mississippi, 8" x 5¼", New Orleans, 1809 Aug 18, certifying that Josiah Huff is a native of Massachusetts and has produced proof "in the Manner directed by the Act, entitled, 'An Act for the Relief and Protection of American Seamen'" that he is an American citizen. Intact seal for the "District of Mississippi / Custom House New-Orleans." Very good; overall toning; small chink at lower blank margin. Rare.
