Lot 3877

France. ½ Louis d'or, 1729/8-A (Paris). Fr-462; KM-488.1. Louis XV, 1715-1774. Draped bust left. Reverse: Crown over two oval shields. NGC graded AU-50.

Louis XV, known early as "the beloved", was later considered anything but beloved by the French people. A grandson of the previous king, Louis XIV, he was indecisive and timid, just the opposite of his powerful grandfather. His inability, to make tough choices, coupled with the unpopularity of his too visible mistresses, and the preception that he was bankrupting France with his lavish spending policies led to his being reviled throughout France.
Estimated Value $400 - 500.

Realized $776
