Lot 3873

France. 1 Ecu d'or neuf a la couronne, ND. Fr-307. Charles VII, 1422-1461. Crowned arms of France flanked by two crowned fleurs de lis. Reverse: Floriated cross in quadrilobe, a crown in each angle. Edges clipped and surfaces polished. Very Fine.

Charles was known as "the victorious", because he led France to victory in the Hundred Years War. It was quite amazing what he accomplished. He was opposed by the English, the Burgundians, two other claimants to the French throne, and a rebellious son who was his heir. Yet through guile and force, he overcame all.
Estimated Value $250 - 300.
