Roman Imperatorial Period. Julius Caesar, d. 44 BC. AR Denarius, Rome mint, Jan. - Feb. 44 BC. Laureate head right, lituus and simpulum behind; CAESAR IMP (MP in ligature). Reverse: Venus stands left, holding Victory and spear, arm resting on shield, which is atop globe; M. METTIVS; K in left field. Craw. 480/3; BMCRR 4143; Sear II 1407. Perfectly centered obverse, with attractive old toning on both sides. Despite the wear, the portrait is splendid, among the finest styles in the lifetime series. Fine to Very Fine.
