After flip-flopping several times since coinage was authorized in 1792, once again, Congress turned 180 degrees and now finally defined by statute that the standard of our monetary system was to be the gold dollar. This $20 gold certificate series 1922 was "payable to the bearer on demand" in gold coin. It was the most widely used gold certificate of the Roaring Twenties.
