PMG Gem Uncirculated 66, Exceptional Paper Quality, John Burke Back Plate #1296 Exquisite beauty and fresh blue imprint, the design elements plus the colors chosen give this immense popularity. FIVE SILVER DOLLARS PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND is the obligation on this Silver Certificate from the later period of its issuance (Chief five dollar notes were put into circulation between 1899 and 1928). At the time, if a holder of such a note so wished, he could exchange it at any bank for silver or gold, or for that matter, small change or any other form of paper currency. This, despite the express payment in Silver nature of the obligation.
