Lot 1455

1823 Restrike. MS-64. Choice lustrous light steel brown with at least a third of the original red remaining on the obverse, 20% on the reverse. The only mark from gem status is a tiny spot of dark olive toning over the T in CENT. Late die state with all the die cracks and rim cud breaks present and the fields slightly reflective where not rusted. A very attractive example of this "restrike" made outside the mint in the 1860's and 1870's using scrap mint dies from the obverse of 1823 Newcomb-2 and reverse of 1813 Sheldon-293.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,350.

Realized $2,645
