Lot 1163

1798/7 S-151 R3 Overdate 8 over 7. VF-20. Sharpness near VF30 but there are a few patches of extremely faint porosity, strongest over STAT. A small nick in the dentils under the fraction and a faint disjointed hairline scratch through the C in AMERICA are the only notable contact marks. No verdigris, and the eye appeal is excellent in spite of the few minor distractions. Rather glossy chocolate and steel. LDS, Breen state VIII. All the die cracks and swelling mentioned by Breen are present. The overdate feature is bold. Called VF20 and CC#6 in the Breen/Bland and Noyes census lists, Noyes photo #24173. Comes with an impressive provenance of distinguished copper specialists.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 4,000.
